On this day in 1835, Robert Murray McCheyne is licensed to preach at the Presbytery of Annam at 22 years old. The following year he was ordained the pastor of St. Peter’s Church in Dundee, Scotland. Less than eight years later, he passed away suddenly after contracting typhus fever in the course of visiting a sick parishioner. Although his ministry was brief, he burned bright with a passion for souls and ardent devotion to God; and left an indelible mark in the history of Christian revival.
Child of God, no matter where you are, burn bright with the love of Christ Jesus! When Mary of Bethany poured out her fragrant anointing in worship of Jesus, it was only a matter of hours before he would be taken. Time was of the essence. This may well be her last chance to express her thankful love and devotion to Him. Formality of custom didn’t matter. Expense was ignored. How people would react, faded into insignificance! She must do it now, before it was too late!
Her actions plead to me, “What ever you are going to do for Christ, do it now!”
Child of God, burn bright!
